Fast Fashion vs Slow Fashion

Fast Fashion vs Slow Fashion

What is fast fashion?

Clothing that is mass produced, rapidly and cheaply in order to keep up with new trends. Fast fashion clothing is often made with cheap and toxic materials, using inhumane labor practices. Fast fashion enforces a culture of over-consumption and waste. Some examples of fast fashion brands are: SHEIN, Fashion Nova, DollsKill, H&M, Zara, etc.

What is slow fashion?

A more conscious and eco-friendly approach to garment production. It is characterized by higher-quality, longer lasting materials, shorter supply chains, and more ethical labor practices. Slow fashion brands are typically small, localized, and more expensive.

Why should I support slow fashion over fast fashion?

It is much more sustainable and environmentally friendly to support slow fashion over fast fashion. Fast fashion is responsible for immense amounts of global emmissions, pollution and waste worldwide. Buying slow fashion items is essentially voting with your dollar and choosing not to support destructive and unethical practices

How do I recognize fast fashion brands?

  • Cheap price
  • Constant trend replication and mass production
  • Made with synthetic materials
  • Production/Manufacturing takes place outside of the USA
